Hello everyone! My name is Evelyn Oglesby aka (Evie), and I am going on a 9 month gap year missions trip to Italy, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, and Australia!! training camp is in 2 months! my launch date is August 28th! I am so beyond excited to see what the Lord has in store for me and my squad. Let me tell you a little bit about me!
I am 18 years old, and born and raised in the heart of the United States! the great state of Ohio!! Just over a year ago, my plan was to go to college, hopefully get a volleyball scholarship, and have the typical college experience. God had VERY different plans! People often ask... Why? What made you decide to do this? That is a very valid question! I only have one way of putting it; I was called to be uncomfortable. That may sound like a strange reason to go on a 9 month mission trip, and serve Gods people, but that is what he called me to. Let me explain... Last year at this time, I was going through a dark season. I cried out to God for answers and for help. I felt empty in the worst way. I searched and searched for anything to help me, anything that could make me feel "better" and finally God told me three words: "Go be uncomfortable". I asked him why. Why would God want me to be even more uncomfortable than I am right now? After weeks and weeks of denying and ignoring, God showed me that it was my comfortability that was penetrating and infecting my mind, and my body. I was comfortable in my sin, I was comfortable in my depression, and anxiety because I didn't know who I was without it. Suddenly one night I broke down, surrendering my comfortability and God GAVE me the desire to literally be uncomfortable. I was\am so tired of living a life of selfishness. In that moment I decided that I was going to become a missionary. I wanted to go all in. never been out of the country, never gone on a missions trip, hardly even been on a plane, and God said go. He didn't call me because I was ready, he didn't call me because I was perfect and blameless, and he definitely didn't call me because I was qualified. God doesn't call the qualified he qualifies the called.
So in two months I am giving up all comfortability and i'm stripping myself so that I can only rely on God for my food, my water, my peace, my rest, my energy, and everything else in between. I am so ready to not have anything.
I ask for prayers as I embark on this incredible journey! Thank you all for reading and thank you for your support!!
